Romain, same country as Tiger, only I'm in Beijing instead of Shanghai.

My seadolphin 770 hoists the French and Chinese flags and here is my lake on Google Earth (about 1 km long)

Not sure anyone thinks me lucky today!  There are Canadians (geese) in the front yard and paddling through the garden.  The dock has floated away from its mountings and my drive is under 3 to 4 feet of water.  The cellar is wet too and the pump is working hard.  May have to give the order to abandon ship soon.  The rain is still coming down but it has changed to freezing rain.

Just been down to the coast today. 70 degrees farenheit, not a cloud in the sky and lots of people on the beaches!

Very nice Colin.  Rub it in why don't you.

Tiger--  I am going to try to enjoy it.  I'm charging the battery of the Fletcher right now.

It's very unusual weather for us too Mike. I hope you are not suffering too badly. My parents old house was flooded out twice years ago in freak weather and the mess left behind wasn't at all funny. We've also had our garage flooded on several occasions with raw sewage until the local school improved their playingfield drainage which previously decanted into the nearby domestic drains. That wasn't very nice either.

Things are fine here really.  Just too cold for this time of year.  No damage seen as yet.  We seem to get storms like this on about a 5 year cycle.  This was the worst though as the wind and tide were against us this time.  As the water rose on the lake (which is not tidal) the winds changed and started blowing hard from the north west pushing the water onto our land.  Should clear in a few days if we don't get any more rain.  I stayed home from work today but I really do need to go in tomorrow. Hope I can get there.  I have a big Ford truck so getting up the drive won't be a problem.  Making my way the 20 miles to work might be a bit of a challenge though as many of the main and secondary roads are flooded.  Even in a big 4WD truck fording flooded areas is foolhardy.

Richard--  Now that looks like fun.  Open another thread with photos from your day of sailing.  I'd like to see that.

Only one reply from Tynemouth? I am amazed. As the club operates all year round and "drivers" frequently come into the clubhouse to get their bits warm before going out to do a bit more pennance, I am stunned that their flagellation has not been more publicised. Braver hearts than me,I'm afraid. But it could'nt have been that bad as this is the first of a few years when the lake has'nt been frozen over. Global warming or just a cyclical effect? And does'nt only one little volcano pump out more CO2 than all the man-made stuff? I think we should keep the heaters on.

Sail at our club pond Just behind the sea wall although with global warming we could soon have the worlds largest club pond!

P.S. dont bother looking for the pond on Google earth, we moved 2 years ago and the poor old satellite hasn't found us yet!

Hi

I (matt) sail in three main places.  To date these are:

Shepperton Marina (where my Grandads 1:1 boat is kept)

The Thames (I always take a boat with me on my boat holidays, so far the furthest up my tug has been is Abingdon)

Portishead boat lake (a lovely huge bit of water, although it has its fair share of horrid toy "speed" boats that I usually end up rescuing when they break, I sail there when I stay with the grandparents who live in Weston in Gordano, a small village nearby).  Have encountered and almost collided with hovercrafts there, usually I am the only "non-toy" boat sailing when I am there.

I myself live in Chertsey, Surrey

An Update from me. And an invitation for all newer members post where they live and for others to update for 2008.

Where I live in Shanghai is no longer just a building site on Google Earth.

In the Shanghai Picture I live on the ground floor the building with a yellow pin. The small lake I use is to the right of centre. As you can guess with al those buildings Sailing is a challenge. In some parts the wind cahnges direction 180 deg in 1 m. LOL

In the Kunming picture the house is not shown yet, still a plot of land. But there is water to the East and West. If you go to the cordinates you can see that we live next to a 480 sq/km bit of water. Maybe one day I will build a big model and sail her across this lake.

The scenery around Wonway and Kunming is very much like Snowdonia, the climate is also similar, only a little warmer.

The Wonway picture shows I am about a mile from a nice reservior. As well as several smaller bodies of water much closer.
