hi lads, tan from leicester here, im new to rc boating and have had petrol rc cars for years i have a hpi baja and a fg monster beetle they just have been getting a bit boring lately constantly bringin them back home in bits. iv been looking at the prestwichmodels lynx 47 looks a pretty decent boat but is there anything out there better for the same sort of cash? and how difficult are these things to build/setup compared to the cars and stuff.
cheers guys
Hi Tan
My Prestwich Lynx was my second petrol boat, first being a cheaper Ready to Run boat. The trouble with my first RTR boat was that it had inferior hardware compared to the Lynx and was only half as fast. Having gone through a steep learning curve with Petrol Power I will always in future (as with my Lynx) buy new and build from scratch. I get as much pleasure from building as I do running them.
If you are looking at the options from Prestwich Models, his Miami 55 (similar price to the Lynx) is a good first boat. It is easier to build being bigger with more room and access inside and more forgiving to trim out properly. With either boat I would recommend (within your budget) the deal option with the stock 260PUM engine. Unlike many RTR deals, Dave’s boats come with top quality hardware.
In terms of difficulty, I would suggest they are well within the scope of folks with good model building skills and some decent mechanical know how.
As others suggested, meeting club members running these boats is a good start.
Cheers
Craig
