Hi folks, this is my first post on this site, I am looking for some help with electronics, I built a model boat my own design during the winter and I am up to fitting the electronics, But having trouble getting anyone to fill me in on what type of a radio transmitter I need to operate several different things such as pump, radar scanner, that type of thing most people tell me I have to use a surface radio these seem to only have two channels. Can I use a radio with more channels such as they use on aircraft. I have no experience with electronics so any help would be appreciated.  My boat is 1.5 Mts in length so I have plenty of room for things inside. I am a retired Marine Diesel fitter & helped with the building of & fitting out of quite a few wooden fishing boats up to the length of 85 foot. I have enjoyed building this boat & I think I will be building others. It get's you hooked after the first one. I live in Tasmania & we have cold winters  here, but I am fine in my workshop with the pot belly stove stoked up. Thanks to anyone who can help

Gooday, welcome to Mayhem.

You are not limited to 2 channels,

If you are after a cheap reliable system I would suggest the Planet 2.4 system which is very popular over here and is also available in Oz.

You can get up to seven channels and the range of signal is ideal for boats and cars, but a bit iffy for flying things.

This is a wholesaler of the system, to give you an idea what you can get.

Hope this gives you something to work on.

Australia is legal to use 36 Mhz sets for surface, the official ruling is even for aircraft odd channels for boats, but this would depend on proximity to any RC airfields, of course 36 Mhz can give you multiple channels. Most are using 2.4 Ghz units which have the advantage of not requiring a different channel, the set selects a clear channel automatically.

Hi Mad Mike, I thought I had answered your post but it hasn't appear on the site guess I stuffed up there somewhere so I will try again, I did some research into old tasmanian fishing boats & found that old Shipwrights built from memory & experience, I thought if they could do that so could I, I don't have the experience they had but here is a picture of my boat building

Hi nick 75au. thanks for the information I don't think there are any RC airfields close to me I will be sailing on the lake here in Penguin so I shouldn't run into to much trouble.

thats a brilliant trawler. I think there fantastic boats, i know nothing bout trawlers myself but also couldnt afford a kit. so i looked at pics of trawlers and basing my boat on the thunder tiger majestic trawler i built this:

judging by the detail you know more about trawlers than i do. I just put stuff on it that i saw in pics. i had no idea what they did though lol

I have been using one of these on my Arun Lifeboat. So far it has been working well.
Dave at Action has got some great stuff but I ran out of spare Chanel's on my Futaba 2.4 set up so i had to use this set up as well as the normal stuff.
