R.I.P. Bisto
« on: December 25, 2011, 12:17:00 am »

On Thursday evening my wife Sheila settled her horse Bisto for the night and gave him his feed - he was fine and had a good appetite
(as usual)
On Friday Morning he was found collapsed in his loose box and the vet was on site with half an hour. She thought he had colic or a twisted gut which
can be fatal so Sheila and her friends rushed him up to the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital in Edinburgh (one of the best in the world) as it was a case of
no operation - no chance - operation gave him a small chance. As it was the start of the Christmas weekend the only persons available were the head of
Equipe Surgery and the Professor in charge of the hospital, so he go the best of the best to look after him.
They carried out a very complicated operation and he came out of the anaesthetic but they think he had a heart attack a short time late and died.
He was only 18yrs old and had been part of the family since 1998 so Sheila is now very upset.
He only moved to this livery yard in August and was already the favourite with all the staff as he was an absolute character
Its far worse than when we lost the dog a couple of years ago.

My sincere condolences Geoff, to your wife and yourself.  Animals have a way of becoming like family members and we feel their loss as deeply.

Regards

It's hard and I feel for you I know I lost my best mate a few weeks ago and it still hurts , but it will get better as time goes by,  just remember the good times and the friendship.

We had a similar loss last Good Friday,
our mare lasted a week at the equine veterinary hospital at York.
It is  a devastating way to spend a week, the  roller coaster ride of looking good and then losing her took its toll on all the family.
My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Thanks Richard - they really take over your life don't they - this will be the first time in nearly 40yrs that my wife does not have a horse
- just at the time when she is retired and able to fully enjoy its company.
Sorry to hear you had to go through the same thing.
