Mobile Marine Models T12 electric motor
« on: March 29, 2007, 01:14:26 am »

Any one had any experience with MMM's T12 motor? I'm looking to turn a 70mm brass prop in a 34" long tug. They sound good but at 42 pound to dear to buy one just to try.

No experience of the mmm T12 motor but the Type 6 happily spins a 70mm prop on my 32" tug so a T12 should easily do it . But I have to ask the question. Why spend so much on a motor I would fit a type 6 or 8 and save some money.

Not tried the motor Barry but spoke to Bryan last month about them and (not wanting to blow his own trumpet) explained that they are as good as the old ones prob better than he used to sell(the big ones) and size for size if i could afford them i would have them in my nangee .
Aparently the type 6,8 motors are not available or limited as the T12 replaces them ,he has had the new motors made especialy for him as the company that supplied the old type were asking far too much.
You can check them out as M.M.M. will be at the no5 boat hoist at Goole for our open day 28th may , see events .

Thanks for the replies. The type 6/8/10 motors are no longer available. Good luck with your open day Portside, a bit far for me to travel as I'm in Australia.
Doe's any one know what sort of car the Type 6 motors came out of? as I may be able to track one down at the wreckers. Most of ones I've found so far are too big or you can't see them with out pulling the dash apart.

Barry the last ones i got from a car for a 42" tug came from a austin metro and they were the radiator cooling fan motors ,reasonably small easy to remove from the car and they had a high torque and a spin speed of about 800+ rpm and a low drain .
sorry about not been able to make it to the open day but will post some pics of the event on here

...Hi Barry...
Its the Radiator Fan from the front of a car that you want,Not the Interior air circulating fan...
The interior fan has been used too much as it is used to cool the car down in Summer & to heat it up in Winter...
A Ford Fiesta has a good motor & its very easy to remove...

I dont know if Ford Fiestas are freely available in Australia...

I have a "NANGEE" hull fitted with 2 of these  MMM T12  motors, I am hoping to try them out this Weekend...
I will let you all know what I think of them...

...Best Regards...Norry...

Thanks Norry. The T12 motors sound good, but I've got a box full of motors that sounded good. It'll be interesting to hear now they go.
Ford have sold a Fiesta in Australia, but it's been a Japanese based car so could be different to the European ones. I'll have a look and see, should be easier to see than heater fans anyway.

Can everyone check their forum email address by clicking the "PROFILE" button.
If it your old or a wrong email address, the emails won't get through and then bounce through to me.....  :-\

Barry.

Barry,  I have two T12's in my 56" long Supply Vessel with 68mm brass props. The boat has pulled two guys in a rowing boat with no problem at all.

Thanks TK-20 and Norry. The motor sounds just like what I want, any idea how many amps they draw?
Regards
Barry.

Barry, I'm not sure what current the T12's draw (without checking) but I have managed to sail my boat for four Sundays without charging the battery. Which works out to be around 8 hours running time... which I thought was pretty good and must mean the T12's are quite low drain. OK so I am using a 12Volt 12Ah battery but I am running two T12's.  :)

Thanks TK-20. Makes it sound a very promising motor.
