Caroline is now de-commissioned but will not be scrapped; she will either stay in Belfast or move to Pompey.

Members of the budgie species can have large, sharp tallons.

Cette image peut, ou non, l'intérêt Xtian, pour cet après-midi, elle a quitté Birkenhead de La Rochele où elle est due à la 18 courant. (Does not look right to me, but there 'yer go).

LB , who has Huguenot blood in his veins.

Hi Liverbudgie

What does Huguenot actually mean?
I have heard the name before but not really
caught on to who was being refferred to.

Re the Rind? - is that part of the game? If yes/
correct, then I will pass - You got the Admiral
with an embarrasing speed Wow!. I need to find
something harder before I have another go
at stumping you guys .......... and no US ferries
either as you know my interest in them O0 {-)
......... Hmmm maybe a pedalo  %%

How on earth did you know it was the Rind, are you a member of another site such as ais?  My humour falls flat at times I'm afriad, what I was saying is that she left Birkenhead yesterday and is due La Rochele, a port Xtian knows well I expect, on the 18th.

As for the Huguenots see here and other sites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huguenot

As for us. We settled in Spittlefields in the east end of London as silk weavers apprently my great, great, great, moved to Coventry in around 1840/50 by canal, on the demise of the silk trade there he became an apprentice watchmaker and eventually set up a business in at 4, Mount Street, Coventry. This surived the bombing in 1940 and still exists; many of his watches can be seen in Coventry Museum though I have never been to look. My Grandfather moved to Liverpool in about 1880 a set up another watchmaking business; I am the fourth and probably the last generation in the family to be involved with watches and clocks.

Oops, I just seen that you gave the answer LB .... Why  <:(

About Huguenot, it's strange to refer as it as in fact this term was given by ennemies to this people and not really appropriate to them.

Xtian,

1) Probably because like me you were still your bed when he answered.

2) This is new to me perhaps, when you have the time, you could expand on that aspect.

3) You can post the next one if you want to.

Oops ... I also not seen that Norseman gave the answer ...  %%    %%    I have to going back to my bed  {-)

As Rind was a fully unknown word (and ship name  ok2) I passed on it ... now I've read better the complete Norseman message : sorry

OK I take the turn even if my search was not so academic : just having a look to the traffic incoming for La Rochelle harbour  O0

Not a US ferry ... just a poor old hull waiting for scrapping after two "carreer"

Hi

Yes I am a night creature LB - I work nights and if I am not working I still don't go to bed before 5-6 a.m.
{-) and no I am not a member of anything special

The answer to this just meant digging around on the internet. The picture has liverpool in the background,
and though I don't speak French (really wish I could read it at least) you mention two ports and 18. The internet
will get you RIND, then start looking to find a picture of a ship caled RIND. I found one where the paint was blue
not orange - that threw me for a while but I went with it anyway. Was it part of the game or just chat with Xtian?

The other thing I was doing was Slug asked about a tug at Sharpness with a red funnel with a gold crest. I mooched
about and think it is THOMAS registered in Southampton. I could only obtain one image - I would like a better one.
I am waiting to see if I was right.

Well that looks like the environs of Toulon; at first I thought it was the remains of the Aunis however, on reflection and consulting my copy of Janes 1978-9 I now believe it to be the remains of the La Saone of 1948, a vintage year I might add, which was ordered as a fleet tanker but completed as a merchant vessel before being returned to the Navy.

No Norseman there is no game just me showing my ignorance. If you are stuck with French or any other language give Google translater a try, I find it to be pretty good.

Hi LB

I just meant this game - I'm sorry if you thought I meant anything else.
Re translators - I had a bad experience with an English to German one
so I avoid them now.

I found some  more pictures based on your last reply
http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/search.php?query=la+saone&x=20&y=2
but I couldn't find one in service and that was what I was after really.

Hummm in fact I was thinking this mystery ship more difficult as this picture is an actual one and the Saone disapeared from the view very long time ago.

In fact she is well the Saone and it's like surealistic as she came back to Toulon in 2009, 70 years after her launch and 30 years after her decommissioning !  Since 1982 she was out of view as used as breakwater in the military part of the small island of Levant, this part of the island is used as fire range test ... nobody go there !

 http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=110242

The Saone and the Seine were pretty nice ship "old fashion" ones !

Back to you LB !

Yes, I went after the skippers job on the old one. The last time I saw this one, she was high and dry on a mussel bed in Plymouth I think it was. There but for the Grace of God etc!!!

Try this one taken in Capetown last year:-
