Mtroniks Viper marine 15
« on: January 10, 2012, 08:20:00 pm »

Hi Mayhemers,

I'm using an ESC to control the speed of an electric water pump, therefore I only require neutral to full forward action for the PWM range of 1 to 2ms.

I've just taken delivery of an Mtroniks Viper Marine 15 and it works fine as per the instructions, in forward, neutral and reverse - no complaints about that.

I normally use Robbe Rokraft 100up ESCs and have got used to being able to programme them to give neutral at 1ms and full forward at 2ms pulse width.

Reading the various suppliers websites, it is implied that the Mtroniks reverse can be disabled.

Is it possible to set the Mtroniks to give neutral at 1ms and full forward at 2ms?

Oh ... and by the way, what on earth is a "programmable punch" with regards to an ESC?

Any advice  fully appreciated.

Ian

Would it not be cheaper and easier to use a standard servo with a disc on top cut to a cam shape and a microswicth to operate the motor? Simple on/off control with nothing in between.

Hi,

I've done that for other applications, but the pump's speed is required to have full range 0 to 100% to give a variable flow.

The reason I'm trying the Mtroniks ESC is that the Robbe's are getting so expensive these days.

I think you have the basic viper and on the Viper series I dont think you cn if go for the Tio series of marine speed controler very little diffrence if price you can remove reverse and also set up low battery cut outs for lipo or nimhs plus a few other things

Thanks Pete for that info - I obviously didn't look too deeply into the Mtroniks range and missed the Tio.

The manual, though, doesn't make it clear if the neutral stays at 1.5ms or moves to 1ms.

Sorry Ian, I misunderstood your question.

Save the Viper for a job where you need both forward and reverse.  Get a model flight ESC (usually forward only) which are small, light, relatively cheap and for their size have a huge current ability.  Or, as suggested, use a cam operated switch.

I think you will find that MicroGyros make the speed controller you are after.
forward only with variable center adjust point.

Very nice speed controllers....http://www.microgyros.com/speed-control-setup.html
