HI ALL ; I'm looking for a ELECTRIC MOTOR for my TUG . It has a 4 1/2 inch. prop ,and the boat is 36 inches long , draft is about 7 in. I have a 1200 Graupner speed ,and 12 volt lead acid  battery . I need a motor that will handle the job .  capt   PUFFIN

You need a motor that spins at 1000-1500 RPM so in most cases gearing would be required unless the motor is very low Kv (rpm per volt)( approx 125 Kv).  I have some 24 volt bilge pump motors at 160 Kv which would work, they are Rule 2000 GPH units which would probably work even if the RPM is a fraction high. I actually use a 24 volt water pump motor on 24 volts driving a 100 (4") prop at 1500 RPM, it draws 5 amps, the bilge pump motor at 12 volts will draw approximately 10 amps, so as long as the no load RPM of the motor is no higher than 1500 RPM.

A standard 12volt Speed 700 BB Turbo with an 8:1 gearbox would be very close to the right geared solution.

What is a "1200 Graupner speed"

Thanks, Nick, for your reply.  A 1200 Graupner is a real heavy duty speed control made by Graupner.
