its my AMPHIBIAN..THE AMPHEEA........
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:29:11 pm »

Friends..Colleagues..Modelers..up to two days back, actually i was looking for a new craft, while working on 6...instantly, i got a challenge to make an Amphibian vehicle, and that must controlled in every aspect, by radio, on land and in water..but must be in scale, and shape..and here i am thanking a million times to one of my Friend, a modeller Mr Mike..for the challenge and inspiration..i do not know, why he thought, that, making an amphibian as a challenge, as it is far easier than to make a boat itself..i finished her in to the scale of 1:28th, as i can run all in conjunction with rust of my crafts..

here i used nothing extra ordinary, except two ECMs for saving time..we can use any motors at any voltage..and instead of a high speed i gave more preference to torque as she is intended to use in rough terrains..actually, the challenge from my Friend, Mike was to make a amphibian from WW2, German. but i added some imagination in total structure, with some modern angular touch..whats a craft without some imagination..?

here you can see how simple is to make an amphibian vehicle..the full craft is made of foam board, 2 mm thick, and some papers..except motors i used all hand made ESC systems, for total control, including motor differentials..with a 4 channel radio, she is awesome performer..i added second wheel set, on a free fall suspension, that can be removed easily, whean not in need..so, can reduce a little drag, in water..and all we know an amphibian is not intended for sprint..but serious operations..so i stabilized the ESC to a scale speed, with a potentio meter..she is equiped with all controls, as, steering in land, and throttle control at FFD and REV, steering control at water, and throttle control with FFD and REV..all controls are individually controlled..i have to detail her a little more, but willing to add some modern features on her instead of conventional..once again..see how easy to make an amphibian.. :-)) %)

at beginning i tried with some small wheels..but later i replaced it with some bigger wheels..all wheels are scraped from cheap toys..
all used gear boxes were again scraped from toys..no any imported or expensive items are used..

Hello Krishna

I have only the simple mudra of Namaste to offer you.

You are a great modeller and always willing to share.
More than that you are a happy soul and your threads
spread that joy to others. What a speedy build  :} :-))

I thought that would keep you busy for a week at least!!  very impressed :-))

krish do you think you could post some pics of the inside?? Im interested to see how you managed to get the steering on the wheels to work. How did you manage to connect the wheels on the outside of the hull to a servo on the inside?

its not relavant but id just like to point out that the picture of the DUKW is an american amphious vehicle

anyway i got another challenge for ya seeing as you did that without trying:

krisha i challenge you to make a Hydrofoil boat:

nice footage of one here :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nBf9eafIn4

mechanicals:

bit more of the workings:

http://www.myships.org/ITALIANHYDROFOILS/ALIKENIA/16492374_TZ7kGS#!i=1241218630&k=sRtQ8

seeing as you know a bit about aeroplanes too i think youl have this down no doubt!!

you up for it??

Krishna easily beat your first challenge Mike.
But this new challenge (in Captain Blackadders words)
is 'as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University'  O0

Friends..Modelers..here i am posting the internals of this machine..so you will find how simple and easy to make one..before that i have to tell you some simple things..most of us are staying away from modeling, especially from RCying, because of some simple things..because, whenever we thinks about a craft, for RCying, we think some big..means, that we thinks about expensive and extra ordinary items for our modeling needs..and many of us buys a radio set, with a high price, and keeps it in a safe..and, realizing that there is no craft to fit it and RC it..and we took it from package, puts in battery, and connects receivers and servos, and goosefleshes as the servo arm travels..but still realizes that thgere is no any crafts with us..and many of us, starts with a basic 4 channel radio, without any craft, and after few months, we buy a new one, in 6 channel, and then we think about it as not satisfying..so we buy an another one..with an L C D display..still we think the display is not back lit..so go for an other, while not realizing that we need only a basic 6 channel radio, for our RC ying needs..in my experience a basic 4 channel radio with servo reverse switches on panel is the best bet for a good RCyer..and can add two more channels on it,for blowing the horn and light, or gear set operations..

then, many of us thinks that the only way to make a good model is, a highly expensive laser cut kits..with some extra ordinary glues..and starts at the age of 40, and almost finishes at our retirement age..still a dead one..and i know many of us, stays away from this great art of model making, because of high expense tag considered..and some of us, saves some money, without knowing, life partner, and somehow orders or purchases a kit in secret..and keeps all bill under the bed..as thinking the safest place, as wife never look under side of bed..but, if she, or he finds it accidently, he will meet her, at eve after duty time, at home, with raised eyebrow, wide opened eyes..canine teeth outside, waiting him with chappathi maker roller stic in one hand, while a big vessel in second hand..and with a ever harsh voice, that he ever heard from her..and for her..an agry hus, holding the cell phone in hand, waiting to call father in law, to take her with him..and is modelmaking this much dangerous..and time consuming..?  never..think once..a boat that can be make and RCit within a three hours..not with hurry but with a song at lips..with a coffee...!!..that even a busiest person can do..think again..as simple..so, ye,once again,..think to make a craft our own in easy way with handy things..looks better..feels better..RCyit better..you need only sum to pay for two cups of coffee..and you do not need any stuffs even a cutting mat..but what we need is an art knife, some simple materials.. :-))

when we consider an amphibian..we think about the water proofing ideas..looks around the internet for water tight shafts and containers..complex gear boxes..and shocks all are too high in price..so, the dream still be a dream..instead if we listen around us..we will find some solutions..for an example, when we think to make a car, for RCying, we instantly thinks about a differential system, at rear axle..and wanders for it..but yes, its true, that for a real machine in weighing tonnes, its a must, that it need a differential..but a simple RC craft it is not a nessesary..and i made many Go carts for my Colleagues, before, with a single shat, powered by a 4 stroke water pump engine..still working..so, to make an on road craft, we do not need a differential..its true, that we can use it all on high performance machines, for more realistic operations..so, here i never used any complicated gear boxes, or differentials, as it is not a need to us..and you can see in my video, how nice it is woking..all in ground and water...

here i started with a box, made out of foam board, and sealed its all corners with diluted NC putty..and all we know, to an amphibian, we have to keep all internal parts from water as water proof..so, in reality, we think it as some complicated..so we buy or collect ample of water profing stuffs for it..with a high price..but, here is a simple formula for making an amphibian..cut the machine at half, from water line in our mind..so, consider the upper part as water tight container, as it must stay above water, while the second one stays under water..so, we can add all driving mechanism, with electronics within the upper box, while the lower box contains the drive train and steering mechanisms.. so..we can simply attach the whole box to any caft as its outer... :-))

seems like a very simple and affective idea. I was thinking about making one myself, i have salvaged a differential from an rc car which is also encased with the motor in a single gearbox. I must agree with you that building RC models doesnt have to be an expensive hobby, it would be nice to have a fortune to spend on our models but just because we dont doesnt mean we cant build something good.

If you made a hydrofoil allready then ill have to think of something else. how about this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlEt0bCeTy8

I cant see anyone building that on a budget !!
