This was my last build 1/96 scale Escort Carrier Gambier Bay.The model took 6 years to complete 8 months of that time in painting alone. Model details 63 in long 18in high 15in across the flight deck most of the fittings came from John Haynes fine scale models. Should you need any further information please send me a p/m via Mayhem. Hi Bob

I'm not a warships type of guy and it was quite a while before I started looking at
warships threads. Now I can't get enough - not because I have gotten in to warships
but into the builds themselves. I'm amazed at the skill and dexterity of the guys -
not to mention the knowledge of their subjects. So I hope you have some build photos
too?

I was following Stan's build over the years and I must say, it's one of my favourite models of all time and the speed that Stan built it, is quite astonishing! ( A few more photos here: )

It's really good to see what can be done when time , effort and a little persparation is expended on a model . Simply superb . Thanks for posting the pictures ,an inspirational model for sure.

Thank you all for your comments on Gambier Bay.I must say a big thank you my fellow club member Mr R Simpson for taking the first nine pictures of Gambier Bay. I could never have taken pictures this good still using a box brownie. So once again many thanks Richard for all your efforts in taking some great pictures of my model.

Once again I have thank my good friend and fellow club member Mr R Simpson for some very good pictures of Gambier Bay and Bob for taking the time to put the the link to this page. The paint job on the model took 8 months to complete lots of masking tape used . Paints from White Ensign and Humbrol used. If you need ant further information please contact me via Mayhem.

I now have most of the fittings for the second Escort Carrier build U S S Copahee C V E 12. I have sourced fittings from John Haynes, Deans Marine, Toms Model Works and my local model shops. I hope to start this project at the later part of this year with a build time of about two to three years. These models look very basic but they do have a very large amount of detail that needs to be added. I hope to have the Gambier Bay and Copahee along with my Liberty ship and Fletcher class back on the show circuit by 2014.

I now have the fittings from John Haynes for C V E 12. The service from this company is first class the web site shop is easy to use. The fittings are excellent and not expensive. The web site is well worth looking at. Many thanks for excellent service.

Looks like a museum piece to me. At some point in time, with the Iowa opening up in Los Angeles and the Midway in San Diego, I am sure you would find a good home for her if you ever decide you do not have enough room.

Great work, really a nice model

, I'm on the eve of starting to build my owm Casablamca class aircraft carrier (already ordered the plan and fittings to the Floating drydock), maybe not the Gambier bay but another of Taffy 3 task force who survived.
This aircraft carrier will be in 1/72 scale, like this I will add what is missing to your 1/96 scale model : a lot of aircraft and figures to make it look alive in operation. and I hope it will take me much less time, using different methods.

Hi Harquebus. When I started this project way back in 2003 it was going to be model to sail, but it soon became clear it was going to be a display model only. Six channel radio is fitted to control speed, steering, working radar, lights and lift. I hope to build a second carrier CVE 12 U S S Copahee. This will go with the Gambier Bay liberty ship and Fletcher class destroyer. The bottom pictures are a German Federal Navy inshore mine sweeper. Total build time for Gambier Bay six years, length 62.5" beam 15" height 18i". Many thanks Martin for finding some old shots and posting them on Mayhem.
