An Alternative to Mono Hull Trim Tabs??
« on: March 06, 2012, 06:27:02 pm »

Hi folks
My 47” Lynx mono is fitted with a starboard trim tab to counteract the torque roll. And although it runs well it does every now and then have a tendency to submarine. I figure that a down side of trim tabs is that by lifting the transom up it can pull the bow down.
As an experiment I decided to fit two wedges on the starboard side of my hull. I figured that these would offer the following advantages over trim tabs:
1 Less drag as when flat out they are not constantly in the water.
2 Importantly the front wedge gives hull lift when the bow is wet such as in turns. The other wedge acts closer to the C of G keeping the hull level.
Sunday was my first run with this set up. It was the best my Lynx has performed todate.  For the first time in 2 years of running I could throw sharp 90 degree turns at full  throttle with confidence.
I will be keeping these little wedges as they worked very well for me.
These images below show the boat  and the wedges subsequently fitted. Has anyone else tried them to good effect?
Cheers
Craig
