Barge for Taking Core Samples - Portsmoth Harbour
« on: March 06, 2012, 02:54:16 pm »

Core samples are being taken in the approaches to Portsmouth Harbour to assess the sea bottom for dredging a new channel for the new carriers. Last week the barge was in the harbour entrance itself, they make interesting photos, as you can see the day was rather misty.

Ah Deadbeat That was my favourite Pompey pub that you got in the photo. Brings back happy memories

Your not the only one with the memories of the old 'Still and West'
At least it's still open and not knocked down like a lot of old Pompey Pubs.

Enjoyed many a pork pie in there in 1982, watching the 'home' fleet of clapped out Tribal Class Frigates defending the interests of Great Britain, while the rest of the fleet were busy elsewhere.

My last pie for a few years was at the end of 82 when they finally let me out.
Went back just to see what they had achieved with Warrior but everything had changed
or was it me? Even the old Still and West seemed to have lost the old atmosphere.
Pompey was only my second home being a Guzz rating.
