Red Cross decals...
« on: March 23, 2012, 11:34:11 am »

Anyone got any ideas as to where I may be able to buy a set of Red Cross vinyl/waterslide/whatever/ decals as used on hospital ships?

I'm going to build my QM2 as she would look if ever she were called up for hospital ship duties, something like the ship in the pic below.

I'd thought of that Ken...but it didn't look sort of 'right'. Know what I mean? There's always a hump where the two pieces go over one another. Unless I make them up out of individual pieces on a separate base...

If you draw the outline you can sharp-blade them out then...

Not rocket science Rich.

One length right through either vertical or horizontal and two short bits butted up to the long bit to form the cross.

That way no overlap.

Rich,

For the red cross on my RML http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=35249.0 I used self adhesive vinyl from these guys,as below...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Self-Adhesive-Vinyl-Coloured-Stickers-Sheets-Roll-Sign-Set-Sticky-Back-Plastic/110755262819?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=001&category=46742&cmd=ViewItem

It comes in sheets so you can have a few tries 1st, just draw out and cut with a sharp blade - waterproof and even varnished over the top with no reaction at all so highly recommended.

Basically same as what Russ said  :embarrassed:

BW Models (1/72 scale white Metal vehicle specialists) do decals for their Ambulance models
Depending on the dimensions required, they may be worth a look;

CJ's link was ideal, the material was perfect, and dead easy to use....I've ordered a few more sheets to play with for the decals on my new Spearfish.

Thanks all,
