Sleep deprivation time again !!
« on: March 24, 2012, 10:18:43 pm »

Yes folks, once again our illustrious leaders have decreed that we must advance our clocks 1hr forward vis : 0100 to 0200.  >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

I just can't understand the logic in this anymore - why, why, why ????  >:-o >:-o >:-o

This posting may seem like a bit of a rant but, in reality, I just wanted to remind everyone  O0 {-) {-) {-)

Regards,

Ray.

Call me cynical...... but I think it's just another way the government can take something from us.... it's a "time tax"!! ;)

I know what you mean I really don't understand why we have to put our clocks forward and backward every year  {:-{ {:-{ As far as I know we are the only European country to do this.
I just think It's a bit silly now  %% %%

Works a treat in Cyprus.  I once watched a whole platoon of German holidaymakers miss their Sunday breakfast.

The true perfidious nature of "time tax" is that although we get a delicious extra hour in bed for five months of the year, we get woken up an hour early for seven months.  That is totally unfair.  They say it is "good for farmers" - well if they want to get up extra early I'm not stopping them.
Likewise the few European-dealing businesses that demand double Summer Time, they should not force the rest of us into premature consciousness nor make people to drive to work still half asleep causing increased accidents.

Daft IMHO

Of course we aren't! Other countries do exactly the same. Do you really want to keep the dark evenings into the Spring? The real argument is whether we should fall into line with European countries and advance our clocks a further hour. Much better in my view. if it doesn't suit Scotland then they can have their own time zone. France is an hour ahead of us all year round and I find it works much better than in the UK, much better to have longer daylight hours during the evening when you can do something useful in your own time.

As for it "being good for farmers"
one autumn I once asked an old farmer if he had enjoyed his extra hour in bed.
His answer was,
"T'cows can't tell time lad, so what's good a watch for a farmer".

Now hear this, now hear this, the answer is simple move to Queensland Australia, our clocks alway tell the right time, no daylight saving.

Actually, lets think about this....Our bodies operate on the suns position, we know the suns position in advance. Computers can do this for us easily and radio controlled clock/watches already exist.

I am by nature a 'night owl'.  I have always done my most creative work long after the sun has set, so having to get up even earlier gains me no extra sunlight at all, just less sleep.  QED.

Several years in NZ, we changed that start and end dates for DST so that the start was earlier in the year and the end later - I think it was 3 weeks at each end or something like that. One of the reasons put forward is that it save electricity as you get more daylight at each end, so less need for lighting.

At this time of year (Autumn down here now) the mornings are starting to get a little too dark for my liking, but the evenings are still good.

I gather that it's something to do with the limited light available to Scottish arable farmers. Now that every agricultural machine has about a dozen high-powered spotlights and you can see harvesting etc going on all round the clock this argument seems a bit spurious. How many arable farmers are there left in Scotland anyway? Let's hope that if Mr Salmond gets his way then we can leave our clocks as they are in England and he can do whatever he likes with his.
There was also some concern about kids being unsafe on the roads when it's dark early in the morning. Wouldn't it be less bother to change the school hours than disrupt the sleeping patterns of the whole population twice a year? Anyway, around here you don't see many kids going to school on foot or bike - they're all driven by their mummies in great big Chelsea tractors.

Too right!

I feel better for seeing some extra sunlight, I will enjoy whilst I still can, I might not see any sunshine for a few months, just snow, more snow and did I mention snow?
