cable amps/speed controll/battery

ok ..i have a 25 amp speed controll i want connected to a 6 volt battery....now the cable i have is 2 rolls 1/red +1/Black of 17 amp cable from Halfords....My question is..should i be using cable of at Least 25 amp..to match the speed controll....? :-\

It depends on the current likely to be used by the motor,
To be on the safe side you could just fuse it at 15 amps.

Hi Boris,

depends if your motor will pull 25A or not.

Also if your motor pulls more than 17A then how long for - if it is only for a short time then you can get away with it.

Personally I would say try it - fuse with a 15A fuse and run the model - if you get no blowing of fuses then you are OK.If you do get fuses blowing try pushing them up to 20A. Run the boat and check the temperature of the wire - if there is no sign of the wire getting warm then you sohuld be OK
