our local shop sells nitrosa stainless in metre lengths , which can be silver soldered together .

I seems i may need a day out at "Pompy" sometime although I'll try all the local shops first, I've not been there since i was 18, even then it was only after a girl  :}.

Any progress on the Spearfish Rich ?

Hi Tony/Jon..

Nothing much done today to the Spearfish, waiting on the postman tomorrow(hopefully tomorrow)to bring me another sheet of styrene to complete the rear access cover in the deck. Once that's done...it's stick hull to deck time....the point of no return!

a day out in pompy would be a great idea hawkeye , its falklands remembered at the dockyard next weekend , a heavey horse show on the sea front and a reasonable model shop too !  rich i think id have altered the cockpit floor area to include the two drop down sections ?

Haven't done much to the boat today, I'm waiting on the styrene sheet to arrive...it'll be another day or two yet according to the ebay seller. That and the fact that it was time I had a massive tidy up in my bedroom (my bedroom also doubles as my modelling room) I was fed up wading through shavings and assorted 'stuff' on the floor, to say nothing of what I've been breathing in during the night! It's a good thing I don't have the problem of sharing my bedroom with a lady...

I now know what I'm going to do with the floor though, and it entails building a proper dashboard, something like the one in the photo...so I have removed the one I installed.

that sounds like a good plan , for the helm wheel in my spear ive used a wheel from my old kysoho seawind & removed the outer wheel ( it was a double on the same shaft ) i think both ROBBE  &  GRAUPNER  sell similar helms for their yacht kits . the morse control levers ive used some nos lesro items that ive rounded off and painted . the dash  instruments are on hold until i can make something suitable , the ones from BECC look far too big ! jon

Sorry son, everything seems to be going wrong with this build....STILL waiting on the styrene sheet to arrive, the prop shaft has been in and out twice now...and I haven't been too good.

But we're getting there...

Hi Jon,

Updates and photos tomorrow, just to let you know that the hull and deck are now joined, the glues is still setting so I didn't want to move it about to take pics now.

The rear deck...ah yes, the rear deck. That turned into a full blown nightmare, I tried several different things but nothing just sort of...looked right, know what I mean? So, for the moment I'm using the "out of the box" method, just subsituted styrene for ply and made a small access hatch to make switching the radio on/off nice and easy. Once I've run it for a while, then I'll have a rethink on that deck...

But for now, there's just the front railings to fit, and the windscreen to cut out and fit, a few detail parts and she's ready for the water.

Glad to see that the poor abandoned one is having a proper restoration job done on her...she deserves it.

Made a start on the windscreen....that failed. Miserably. I guess the plastic had deteriorated over the twenty five years or so it had been stored in the previous owner's loft, and it's just cracking everywhere as the scissors touch it. So...I guess I have to make a new one, good thing I have a few CD cases laying around. A pain in the wotsname...but never mind.
