Progress ok, Jon...

Just a couple more bits of wiring to do, then the internal layout is about done, I think.

Then it's onwards with cutting the access hole out of the floor...

And just in case, I've fitted a (brushless) cooling fan...you never know.

Yea, tell me about it Jon...I've also discovered that prop tube and shaft is offset as well. I guess when I glued it into position it must have moved somehow, so now I have to remove the tube and refit it. Which in turn means removing the radio tray to enable me to gain access to it....which in turn means an awful lot of bad language.

Excuse me whilst I go and sulk in the corner....

think weve all been there at some time , i now tack the tube in with some cyno before setting both the shaft and rudder tube in with glass fibre paste ( isopon p40 or similar )  , with regards to the receiver , ive positioned mine  under the cabin roof  ( im running on 2.4 ghz ) so its as far from any possible water ingress as possible !

Same as that Jon...a drop of cyano just to hold the shaft in place...check it again, and then it's in with the P40 or epoxy resin, but I guess it must have moved this time. Oh gosh and bother it, I said....

Oh well...it'll give me something to do tomorrow..   >>:-(

think id have used stronger words than  gosh & bother ! the weather isnt looking too good for boating so quite a good time to be building , currently spending the mornings in a mates workshop welding 2mm thick stainless steel trays  for a member of the local model display team , with the afternoons spent either on my own models or the aged triumph . however i have this evening managed to try my own huntsman 31 with the 11.1 volt lipo , needs improving !

It might have been damn and blast it.... %)

I'm thinking whilst everything is ripped out tomorrow to change the motor to a brushless...I can always go sailing with it on the big club lake, or even out on the sea.

I really should get on with the decorating....

changing to brushless sounds like a good idea , you can always throttle down when on the small lake ?  think brushless is the way my 31 is going to go next .

That's what I thought, back it off a bit on the small lake.

So, whilst nobody else is looking, what brushless do you reckon, Jon? Using the existing cell packs....I can't afford lipos as well.

my spear is using a pair of eflight park 450 brushless motors , with a fusion tornado fs-tbl30hv esc on each motor ( available from www.LogicRC.com ) each being powered by its own 11.1 volt lipo . im not sure of the cost of either the motors or escs as they started life in a very large vosper patrol boat ( sold without motors /esc due to its weight ) . dont know what to recomend for a single motor , it might be a good idea to look at red181s thread for last year as he is using a single brushless in his 42 " huntsman 28 .jon

That build log is frightening...not only the expense!

I do have a Spirit 600 motor...that should be pretty quick on 12volts.

i know it gets expensive , hence using somebody elses knowledge as to what works can save a few pounds . is your spirit 600 a brushed motor ?

Well, she's gutted now, just an empty shell again.

You can see the motor in the pic below with a 380 for size comparision...it's a pretty potent motor I'm told, I've never used it yet. Probably a very amp hungry motor...

it looks as though it might be hungary , have you managed to move the running gear aft too ? mine have the motors , escs ,  batteries and rudder servo aft of the cockpit bulkhead . the only equipment in front of the cockpit is the rx and a very small switcher that operates my lighting .

Ok, starting on the refit now...changed the motor for an ARK Model/Hooben 550, changed the motor mount for one which actually fits, shortened the prop shaft and tube by 2", and everything now sits between 2" and 3" further back in the hull.

I'm also going to do away with the wooden radio/battery tray, the batteries will be velcroed onto a piece of styrene sheet along with the rx and the new esc, so there will be a considerable overall loss of weight and a rearward shift in the C of G.

that set up looks much better , i would advise making up a plasticard tray for both batteries plus a receiver pack & lift it away from the hull a little just incase of water ingress , mine is about half inch up from the hull skin , mounted on the same type of posts that the ic boys use to mount engines etc .

I'm on that Jon, I had to order some styrene sheet as I'd run out(most unusual for me)

I'll also be installing a different esc, one with a built in BEC, so that's the rx pack done away with, not needed. I wish I could lose as much weight as the Spearfish has!

Blimey U-33,
You took a very roundabout way to get back to what you considered in the first place!!!

You know me Bob...if there's a right way of doing something, a wrong way of doing something, and a 'just plain bloody daft' way of doing  something, you'll not need three guesses as to which way I'll choose!

what a way to leave such a great craft ?  how much detail are you looking to include in your own model ?
