bottleboats
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:31:11 pm »

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a start on building a Bottleboat. I saw a heersshort clip on the bottleboat championships and found them intriguing but am meeting a blank wall wherever I try to find construction details. As far as I can see they consist of two plastic bottles joined with a preformed plastic section which carries the mast, keel and radio gear. There must be some basic guidlines to cover racing parameters. I could develop a boat from scratch but do not want to reinvent the wheel.

                                                                            Cheers,  Blowdown.

Hi,
Here are some links http://www.mya-uk.org.uk/yachts/bottleboat.html if you email Roger Stollery he knows a wealth of information about these as I believe he was the designer of them and sells plans for bottle boats.

Here are a couple RC bottle boats I made. Each uses a single juice bottle for hull, so are somewhat simpler than the 2 bottle hulls.

Bottle boats are loads of fun, you will be pleased, I am sure.

I've also made a bottle Brig, but have not yet RC-ed her; she sails fine as a free-sailer, if you don't want the RC expense.

I noticed that PJ Sails do the moulded plastic bits for bottle boats on page 32 of their catalogue.
