Spektrum or Futaba radio ???
« on: April 10, 2012, 02:09:07 pm »

In Australia this is our only choice for 2.4 GHz. i want to use a stick tx not wheel and trigger.

This will go in a Sea Queen with horn sound on CH 3

What do you suggest ???

Cheers

Chris
I use a Spektrum DX5E and use ch 5 to operate a water pump on Flying Phantom no problems and i currently run 3 models using that setup.

I really don't think there is anything to choose between Spektrum and Futaba. In the UK, Spektrum receivers were much cheaper than Futaba ones, although I am not sure this is still the case. If I couldn't buy cheap Chinese sets, then I would look at the reputation of the respective importers and their service facilities. Paying the prices of these brands I would want to be able to get them repaired in case of faults or damage. With the cheap sets its not really worth considering repairs.

Chris,
Don't know your location but seeing  you have internet connection, do like the rest of us and buy on line from overseas.

You can even buy Futaba etc, if you wish, cheaper from overseas, eg US.

Spektrum every single time, for value for money, user friendliness, ergonomics, after sales support and receiver price.

I've had just about every brand radio going, including four futaba sets and I now only have one, a Spektrum.

Look for a used Graupner MC-19.
They are inexpensive due to everyone changing out to 2.4GHz radios.
They are the best in quality and versatility and a 2.4GHz TX module can be wired into the trainer plug for having both frequencies.

Hobby King have an Australian warehouse and offer some good value for money 2.4Ghz Systems
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/index.rc

But out of the 2 you suggested and your needs I would go for something from the Spektrum range

Looks like Spektrum comes out on top. Thanks for the comments.

Is there any advantage in using the dedicated marine RX ?

Ive been using Futaba for the last 4 years with no probs. The RX are a tad expensive but they work well.

The 'dedicated' marine ones I can't quite suss out, there's no real difference other than the waterproofing, but you should seal your boats anyway...

I'm using AR500's, AR6110e's, an AR6200 and the orangerx 6110e copies in boats with absolutely no issues whatsoever :-)

Hi,
Hope its ok to ask here on this thread, but I too use and prefer the spektrum gear so are the "orange" RX's good and reliable and work fine with Spektrum DSM? They look good value.
Thanks.

They work perfectly in anything small, or electric, wouldn't want to trust them in an IC boat though..

I was always Futaba until i elected to change to 2.4 and wasn't convinced that the FAAST system was the way to go.   Went DX7Se and then onto HK compatible RXs.  Great combo.  Don't know why you wouldn't use them in a nitro though.  I use them on Helicopters and Quads with no issues at all.  I suppose its what you could perceive to be a problem, even though ther hasn't been one.

as far as I know the "compatible RXs." are not CE approved so in a flying model the BMFA will not cover you from what I have heard, I wonder what would happen with boats if it was a big claim and you had non CE approved equipment.
I am now a fan of Futaba, but was Previously a JR fan who use or used  spectrum equipment or boards, I did not like the way spectrum did there testing in public , the number of re calls was unbelievable plus they have only just realised a radio that is Marine approved, and yes Futaba did have one re call but it was well publicised at the time

Peter,

Without sounding as if this is personal, but I'd really people didn't repeat such rubbish >>:-( >>:-(

There is nothing illegal about Orange Rxs for Spektrum or Futaba!!

The BMFA have nothing to do with 'covering you' that6's the insurance and they are happy provided they comply - see below!!

The manufacturer will supply a Declaration of Conformity on request for any of these Rx

As for your comments about the 'in public testing' - well, I'll treat them with the contempt they deserve and say nothing :-))
