*Sonar image of 70ft 'serpent' hailed as best Nessie photo for decades".

Impressive title but far from impressive image - there again it is from the Mirror  ;) , see here for more details -

coming up to tourist season again lol , thermal inversion is the best bet , cold water lying over warmer water gives that effect on a sonar , seen it going through Loch Ness myself on a couple of fishing boats on passage through , there is a bit that our sonars couldn't get the bottom ( over 600ft ) not far from the Castle but that could've been the sonar being dispersed by an inversion layer which happens

I reckon Nessie did a vanishing act when the three Clyde Model Lifeboats took to the water to raise funds for the RNLI a couple of years ago, and couldnt understand the language!

Unless I misunderstood, what they have is a trace, over time, of something a mere 5' long following the boat.  5' doesn't sound too far fetched for a normal cold water fish does it?  If it wasn't for the way that the sonar creates the image, there'd be no suggestion of monsters.

Surely for Nessie to be back, it has to have been there in the first place, but as there is no proof of it ever having been there at all it can not be back.

Nessie is just a figment of imagination used to boost tourism to a very beautiful part of Scotland, why not just promote the area rather than this very long drawn out fairy tale?

If that's the one that is/used to be at the Loch Ness centre at Drumnadrochit....

About 35 years ago, we were camping on the shores of Loch News when this thing turned up on the back of a low loader - the owner of the campsite had bought it as an attraction. The local press turned up, and of course, they wanted pictures of it in the loch. Nearly everybody in the campsite, including us kids, helped to lift it off the back of the lorry and dump it in the water. Of course, when we tried to lift it back out, it had filled up with water and weighed about 2 tons... it was still there when we left.

I've got some photos somewhere of us sitting on its back.

Hi,

I had to do an assignment on Nessie back in my zoo days.

It would take a big population of Nessies to keep the species alive and in a confined space there is a danger of inbreeding.

Another problem would be the lack of food resources for a large population.

Regards

Oh dear , another myth. >>:-( Look at today`s (sunday 29th April) weather on BBC charts.  Seems like wall to wall sunshine in Scotland, no wind and there will be a couple of thousand skiers on Cairngorm enjoying the crisp fresh snow.  Looks kinda damp in the English parts of the UK. {-)
