The Belfry is finally all black, and looking much better for it.

'VICTORY' hand painted on the stern.

The decks are looking very fine with their gloss varnish, bringing out the best in the plywood decks!

The figurehead, now re-re-painted with Humbrol Gold with gold powder mixed into it.
Ships boats partly tied down.

Some close up details of the spars and the like next.

Birds eye view of the work so far, about 8' above the waterline..

And a bit more stick reference, nicely (?) gloss varnished.

The Bowsprit is receiving a fair amount of attention at present, much cordage being attached. Bearing in mind that a fair amount of this is now detachable.

John has been on the job so long he has taken to trying to set fire to the model!

Our reference books were being worked overtime as the finish line approached..

That brought week ten to an end, one week to go :-))

Thank you. The Gammoning issue, in our defence, we were replicating what was already there, also, it is pretty tough when finished. You know what these navy types will be like when they get hold of the model ok2

Back to the build..Week Eleven, this is it (almost).
Firstly the mystery of the disappearing cannons. It sometimes takes eleven weeks to notice a previous builders deliberate mistake :embarrassed:

our answer, they are there ( or not ) to frighten off the French!

The ships boats receive a final lashing down, along with a spare spar we seem to have acquired, its like an MFI wardrobe, this boat.

A mad frenzy gripped the team, as we scurried around the model looking for bits that we had missed, Paint, pulley blocks and string seemed the order of the day.

More stringage is added around the model.

John is looking desperately for more work to do to the model, he will be wearing that book soon!

I am put in charge of yellow string!

Which leads to copper wire...

Pulley blocks, possibly not in the correct position, but fulfilling the role of 'detailing widgets*'!

Cometh The Day, Cometh the Hour, its Grand Reveal time. Or put another way, four people breaking their backs to drag the model into daylight, so that the humble people of Mathem can see Victory in all her glory :}

As you can see, it fits through the door.

Its done, mostly. Thanks to Chairman Graham for painting everything black, tedious ratlines and getting us into HMS Collingwood on a regular basis. for those of you that have met the members, you can see that we would appear to pose a security risk, even if only as gypsies. Rigging John, for rigging, bowsprits, polishing potions etc, Colin, for all the heavy wood turning, excellent removable masts, all the little bits and pieces around the model, Victor, for the ships boats, cannons, keeping Colin in line, Helen, for figureheads, transom decoration, the easy bit of the lanterns, and Me, for demanding biscuits, water effects and yellow stripes. Plus all of us for string, knots and superglue fingers.

The Victory model has finally reached its display location at HMS Collingwood. This did require the model being transported up four flights of stairs! We had built in the ability to partly de-rig the model, so that's what we did.
Once de-rigged, we were ushered away for a cup of tea, while the lifters and shifters did their bit. After our tea break, all the hard work was done and it was over to us to re-rig and make good any damage. No damage, very impressive :-)) .
The model had been measured for fit, and everything was fine, in theory. In practice, it was 20mm too tall. following much roof tile tweaking, we decided to chop the excess off the top and present the little stump to the gentleman with the tape measure! These Navy types do know how to extract the mick out of each other {-) .

Once re-rigged and the paint made good, photos and handshakes, and HMS Victory was finally someone elses giant wooden dust trap :-))
