Cleaning Files

Hi Guys,
How does one clean white metal from files? I have tried a Draper wire brush but to no avail.

I think the technical term for clogging a file is "pinning"? A wire brush with 2 or 3 cm. long "bristles" is useless for de-pinning, you need a very short (about 0.25cm.) "bristled" wire brush which is usually sold as a cloth backed roll which you stick or nail to a suitable length of wood.

just another tip  i warm the file with a mini blow torch and brush while still hot with a wire brush
