Drive shaft set-up
«

Just had the drive shaft on my boat sieze up today due to using a new 4mm dia shaft in an imperial tube suited for 4ba.
Small difference in dia but enough to cause trouble.
Does anyone know where I can get Fibre washers to put on the shaft behind coupling and propeller.
Assuming that they are really needed?
What is the purpose?
Pete.

Personally i use stailess steel washers ,brought from my local fastner retailer. From what i see a washer just makes a better trust surface. John.

I use a nylon washer on both ends of the prop shaft. Buy them at my local hardware store in the nuts and bolts aisle for a few pennies each. You don't want the prop or its nut running on the end of the stuffing tube. The thrust forces may grind things down. Let the washer take the wear.

Like John, I also use stainless steel thrust washers at both the prop and coupling ends of the prop shaft. Apart from taking the thrust of the prop they also help to keep the grease in the prop tube.
