Servos for Planet T5
« on: May 04, 2012, 08:59:53 pm »

It's ages since i bought a new RC set, and i was planning to get a Planet T5 combo. But since they don't come with any servos, i was wondering, would a regular Futaba servo plug in to the Planet Receiver ok? Do all servo's have a standard sizes plug and socket these days? Can anyone advise?
Thanks,
Charlie

Should work fine with Futuba servos. At least my friends does. The plugs are a bit close together (tight fit). Most servos should be fine. Seems to be a decent basic set. John.

If you need any servos I usually go here: http://www.giantcod.co.uk/servo-c-23.html

Servo prices start at £1.44. I think it's the cheapest place in town for any RC kit...

I use the Planet set-up, think it's great and use both Futaba and Hitec servos without any problems at all.......

Its pretty universal now that the pins are all in the same order, and at the same spacing.  Some manufacturers insist on having odd bits of plastic poking out of the plug, and a matching shape hole in the case, but an application of knife and/of file sorts that.  The important thing then is to ensure that the plug is inserted the right way round - normally the black goes to the pin nearest the edge of the RX board.
My favoured muck-up is inserting the plug between the rows of pins rather than onto the pins.

I think when malcolmfrary says about the black pin normally being at the end of the Rx, he was meaning most Rx's have horizontal pins, whereas my Planet 5 Rx has vertical pins, so in that case it  would be the top edge ?
Thanks

The negative on a Planet receiver is the bottom one, i.e. the pin away from the printed top of the case.

A lot depends on how you are defining horizontal and vertical.  I would regard my old 2 channel 27MHz RXs as having vertical pins, my 2.GHz several channel RXs, where the pins poke out of the end, horizontal.
RXs where the pins poke out through the top are normally straight, and it is fairly obvious which is nearest the edge.
The newer, more compact RXs, where the pins poke out of the end of the case, usually have the board at the "bottom" of the case and the pins have a right angle bend, so the "lowest" pin is the one nearest the edge of the board.
