Hi everyone,
I am sorry to say that we didn't make it.
Unfortunately from around 7pm onwards there was just large lumps of weed and debris floating
down the lake, the props failed up with reeds and other organic material.
In the end something had to break.
At about 7.30pm one of the couplings stripped out and we brought the boat in, disconnected the motor
and because we had so much power in the motors we tried to complete the record on the remiaining motor.
Running on one motor we only lost about 1.5 knotts so if we could have kept her running we could of still
broken the record.
Unfortunately around 8pm the second propshaft got jammed up with floating reeds and again we sheared a coupling.
We got the boat back to the bank, obviously the record attempt had stopped at that point.
Andy then suggested that we tried his boat this would mean starting the record from the begining again, so we tried the boat
out and had it running at just over 11 knotts. So we worked out we could break the record in just over 12 hours so we started again and
went for it. 15 minutes into the second record attempt we had an electrical problem, so once again the record had to be stopped.
We recovered the boat and because of the number of different electrical set ups we could run, within 10 minutes we had started the record
again for the third time. The boat was running well but unfortunately floating reeds, plastic bags etc .. it just kept hitting them and this
started to drag the boat down. 35 minutes into this one of the battery bank alarms went off, we got the boat back in ready to change the batteries
but on checking the boat there was so much rubbish around the props and one of the motors had got very hot.
At this point we decided it was not worth breaking expensive material. The debris on the water was just getting heavier.
At 10.00pm we had to call it a day.
I will let you know the total mileage we covered tomorrow evening as this is an answer to a competition we are running.
Well Mayhemers we have not been defeated watch this space for the re-match.
Myself and Andy will be attempting this record again very soon.
All that is left is to thank everyone whose has helped us today and come and supported us and thankyou to all you Mayhemers for all of your support
