The "MATTHEW" at Falmouth
« on: May 13, 2012, 11:58:08 pm »

A photo of the replica ship the "Matthew" taken today, alongside the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth. She is open to the public during this week, its just a shame there are not more posters etc showing this, and where she is.
We have the beautiful Classic "J" Class Yachts arriving, what a sight they are going to be racing round the Falmouth Bay as they did so many years ago.

Once went aboard one of the J class yacht's when she was being restored in the 1970's........a friend of mine ( long since passed away) knew the restorer of her at the time ( think it was either Shamrock or Endeavoir but can't remember)......but what I can remember was, the unbelievable beauty of the vessel.

Never  will we ever see such beauty being built from new again............just so stunning, and the size of her was just so impressive.......one of the high lights of my life, and an experience which I'll never forget.
I do remember though that we were not allowed to take photos of her, as there was a television programme being made about her restoration which came out on tv some year or so later.

My Father rebuild the Velsheda in the early 80', it was a thing of beauty and to see it under sail was something else.  Took the wheel a few times too

Yes, the BBC did one on her, and the guy running it was a bit funny about people taking pic etc. copywrites or something like that.
