Planet T5 reciever/transmitter ESC Question
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:59:43 pm »

A query for you radio experts.
I have a Planet T5 according to the instruction book Mode 1 throttle Right hand stick  Mode 2 - throttle Left hand stick.
Used in mode 2
Receiver channel  1 - throttle, 2 - aileron, 3 - elevator, 4- rudder etc
If I use Mtronics, Electronise, speed controllers they work on those settings  re - channel 1 - throttle

If I use the Tornado, Perkins, 50 amp ESC the throttle will not work on channel 1 re-L/Hand stick
however it will work on the R/Hand stick if the lead is plugged into channel 3.

To get every speed control working on the L/Hand stick I have had to plug them all into channel 3
on the receivers and switch the transmitter onto mode 1 which should be throttle R- stick according to the instructions.
Number 1 channel still does not work the throttle on the R/Hand stick.
so on channel 3  elevator I have no failsafe.

Is it just my set or do all the Planet T5,s work like this ?

Hi John,

Just set my Planet with a Tornado ESC and worked fine out the box....it may be your set, can look and check the setup but one thing I noticed is you have to turn everything off and then make changes and repower.

If you do why live nothing happens ! Just mentioning  :D

Hi CJ,
tried that mate, its still the same. It will not work off channel 1 (throttle channel) mode 2 or mode 1
It must be my set {:-{ still I am happy with how it works on mode 1. the only thing I cant
use 2 tornado,s or Perkins 50 amp e.s.p.s together eg 1motor on R stick, 1 motor on L stick.
Still not to worry I can use a mixer.

John, yeah odd that, mixer should resolve but I'm still curious....but that's just me !!

Is it a new set or an existing, might be worth a send back !!

Might have a play with mine over the weekend and see if I can replicate  !!

Hi CJ, the set I use I have had since they first came out. Never had any trouble with the Mtronics, electronise, Hunter systems, esc,s It was when I plugged in a J.Perkins marine esc it would not work on channel 1. so I took the esc back to
the shop who deal mainly in aeroplane/helecopters they had a look and said there is nothing wrong with it, I had
plugged into the wrong channel. The channel they had plugged it into was channel 3, which on the Planet Rx is
Elevator. I told them so but as long as it does work I was happy.
I have since tried 2 more brand new Perkins and a Tornado esc none would work on channel 1 as the throttle L/stick
mode 2. I have changed my set over to mode 1, plugged all makes of esc in my boats into channel 3 so I have
throttle back on the left stick now.

Hi again CJ,
I have solved the problem, it was the 2 Rx,s I had used the J.Perkins esc on, for some reason they will
not accept channel 1 as a throttle channel. For this make of esc
I plugged the speed control into channel 1 in my other planet Rx,s on my other 6 boats and it worked perfect on all
of them. So I can use the problem controls on my daughter boat and rescue boat.

thanks

john

Hi John,
Glad you resolved it, sounds very odd to be manufactured and set up that way.....yeah I have my tornado on mode 1.

At least you have found a way to get round it....happy boating  :}

This is a new hobby to me and already confused

12v sealed battery, 850 Torpedo motor, ESC make unknown.  Brand new Planet T5 Tx, Planet R6MS Rx. Will not work motor at all. Rx channel 3 operates rudder servo, moved connector to 1, 2 & 4  rudder servo operates from left and right Tx sticks (as expected)  Removed Tx rear cover, changed to mode 2, Rudder now operated by right stick, Motor still not working on any channels   :(( {:-{ :((  Help !!!   Recommend another speed controller ?

Burgman,

Might be worth posting a pic up of your ESC...a few things to try,

Check you are getting voltage out the ESC 1st without the motor connected.
Make sure you turn the transmitter and receiver on and off when making changes to settings, they don't register otherwise.
Is the receiver powered from the main battery and the ESC distributes.

You may have had the same problem as John with his Perkins ESC.

In answer to your last question in my RML I have a similar setup...12v 12Ah SLA, 850 Torpedo and planet setup, I am using the Tornado 50A ESC and all works great  :-))

Let us know how you get on ?

Thanks for your reply, late evening too.

There's no voltage from the 'bullet' connectors from the ESC to motor. Motor fine when connected straight to battery, something tells me It's Mr Wong's ESC from Hong Kong that's at fault.

Planet instruction: Rx channel 1 throttle, Tx channel switch (under cover) is position 3, am I correct ?

Maybe 'fail safe' needs resetting ?

Ah ha, spotted.....You've got your ESC connected to the battery input and Rudder in channel 2

Try moving your connector (the one in B terminal) over to number 1 then try it  :-)) leave your rudder in 2

All your switches should be set up as normal.

Try that and let me know.
