The heated oil based ones produce lots of smoke but take quite a bit of power to run.
Smoke pellets produce the most smoke but are quite short lived....

Beware of the "black" ones , it is more of a dark purple-ish colour.  Maybe mixing in some other colour might work, ie two pellets each different. Expensive way to experiment :((.  That pellet was a 90second one, I split them down the middle and put one half on top of the other. They have to be in a metal tube and away from plastic, they get very hot, dont forget it is a slow burning firework. :o

Marks Model Bits have been doing smoke generators for a while now. These use plain water and no heat.

Sadly there is no thing as a free lunch. With any unit more smoke means more power. There are pros and cons for both oil and water foggers. Personally i use water foggers. You can buy off E Bay tripple foggers. To be built into your own case etc. But they take three times the power, about two and a half amps 24v. John.

this is mine in my Orca, its home made, and is the hot oil type, inefficient, but works great :-))

then I modified it, to recreate the engine about to blow up :}

It`s a bit long winded,but here goes:- 1.a piece of 22mm copper tube(approx 1 1/2")
                                                      2.wick (1/2" x 1" strips)
                                                      3.oil (veg oil,car oil,3 in 1 oil)
                                                      4.box of matches/lighter

Drill holes in copper tube all over,soak wick in oil,drain excess oil off and set alight(adult supervision req).Singe one end,and when glowing blow flame out,put wick into copper tube(put copper tube  a 1/3 of the way into the  funnel)lasts about 20 mins(very effective)one last thing before i go,about 6 to 7 yrs ago i soaked the wick in breakfast oil,and when my tug was going round the course in a compitition you could smell the "breakfast" and people were saying i need either a bacon or sausage roll that`s making me hungry.costs peanuts to make (less than a fiver).baloo
