How do I tell by looking (Props)
« on: May 19, 2012, 07:38:01 pm »

Hi all,

My wonderful lady bought me a lovely restoration project for my birthday, which I hope to be bringing to Wicksteed with me (which leaves little time) the only thing is that at some point in the journey the cheap plastic prop has snapped.

Could someone please educate me in the art of propellors (something I'd love to learn more about) and tell me how I can find out from the old prop if it's a left or right hand one.

I need to get it ordered tonight to ensure I have it going by Wicksteed, but don't have a battery or other gear with me to fire it up to see which way it turns, what are the visual tell tale's?

Many thanks in advance!

To check if it is a right or left handed prop look at it as though it is on your model.
If turning it clockwise gives ahead, pushes the water astern it is a right handed prop.
If anti-clockwise gives ahead it is a left handed prop.

So if, when turning it clockwise, the most forward part of each blade is to the right hand side, it's a right handed prop?

That will "push" the water aft (ahead) when turning clockwise it will be a righ handed prop.
You have it now.
