Nice photo's.  Thank you.  Amazing to think that these two ships will each be almost fifty percent greater displacement than the Royal Navy's previous heaviest ship - HMS Vanguard.  I remember taking a boat trip out to Vanguard on a Navy Day in Portsmouth, and how the superstructure seemed to tower into the sky.  These will look so impressive.

PS:  Still can't understand how fitting already designed (US or French) catapults and arrestors would cost a further 2.2 Billion Pounds ?

Eagle and Ark weighed in at 54,000 tons
After many refits
Somewhat heavier than the old Van

i wish lol if i were to make a ship cabable of blowing up portsmouth i would make a typhoon submarine  :-))    much more sensible im sure
(got to remember to build it the right side of the submarine defenses that would be embarrassing fire all the missiles and figure out they blocked the main channel and you can get out  %% %% )

The Tugs towing the Carrier parts were of interest, notice the Typhoon, one of my favourite tugs, hull available from Models By Design!

There was a fairly modern looking tug off of Spitsand, however my photo was less than in focus!

Thats how politicians think.  They tend to ignore the fact that to install the catapult and the bits that work it, and the arrestor wires and the bits that let them work, and redesigning the structure of the ship to cope with the forces involved and still work as a ship, probably means a keel-up redesign, possibly abandoning the parts already built.

When these ships were being designed, the option of retro-fitting catapults was built in from the beginning, allowing the ships to operate any future designs of aircraft that came along. i believe that vacant compartments etc are built into the design. Mind you, with only a fifty year lifespan, I cannot envisage of any new aircraft design that could come into service within ONLY a fifty year lifespan. look at how long it has taken to introduce the Typhoon, F22, and the F35. They would need to be designing these 6th Generation aircraft now, and they are not doing that.
