Very disappointing. Thought it was all about the boats  {:-{

Oh no, didn't you know, it was all about how many babies had been born today at St.Tom's!!!!!!

Did anyoneone see the new RNLI lifeboat, Golden Jubillee, on BBC?

Do you mean Diamond Jubilee, the new Tamar class Eastbourne lifeboat? There were some closeups at the end of the BBC coverage.

And why did we have to have a cookery demo >:-o. It doesn't bode well for the olympics they'll be more presenters than athletes.

I like Tom Cunliffe and felt he tried to focus on the boats and describe the differences and uses but kept being interrupted by changing cameras and inane talk.

Was it just me or did the Queen look incredibly bored?

I think it would have been so much better had it been made in B & W with commentary by Raymond Baxter....just my opinion !

A Clyde Puffer would have been nice but I expect the long trip would have interfered with the VIC32's annual maintenance and the VIC56 is looking a bit the worse for wear these days.

Yes that was quite impressive.

The skipper aboard 'Symphony' also did a cracking job spinning the Royal Philharmonic orchestra's boat on a sixpence,
right in front to the Royal barge.
Good job sir!   :-))

For the first time the BEEB's coverage of a major national event was an absolute disaster, most of the presenter were celeb driven and totally ignorant of the subject the queen and the boats. I wish I'd watched it on Sky News as they seemed to have covered it much better.

P.S. Waverley would have been good to see, no stranger to the Thames.

There were two in attendance; VIC56 and VIC96.

Thanks for the picture of the VIC56 and VIC96 - what a pity they weren't featured on tele!

Good to see the VIC56 spruced up. I looked for the VIC96 last time I went to Chatham but she didn't appear to be there at the time.

Ian

I agree, the Waverley should have been there but she might have stolen the show!

I imagine that Waverly didn't attend because she would have been restricted by her air draught so she would have been in the avenue of sail (read static exhibit not open to the public for the duration), which is a pretty pointless end to what would have been a long and expensive sea trip with fuel, pilotage, mooring and MCA scrutineering etc.

I imagine it is because of their air draught that the VIC's didn't take part in the 'procession', and hence their lack of TV coverage- criminal really as the majority of the really 'historic' boats were in the static 'avenue of sail' moored downstream of Tower Bridge- why theu couldn't have been moored upstream and have the full procession go by them and have the Queen see them all and have the TV coverage/publicity that would go with moving them not more than 1/2 mile I really couldn't work out.

Greg

I take your point about the air draught of the Waverley and VICs and totally agree with your comment about the 'avenue of sail'. There was a long preamble before the pageant started which could have been used to present these ships to the viewing public.

Your picture of the VICs shows them within a stone's throw of H.M.S. Belfast - they could easily have been featured. Presumably the BBC didn't realize their significance.

Just watched the Press preview on sky and it came up that the BBC got a right slating in one of the papers (it might have been the Guardian) for ill informed coverage.

Here in South Africa the SABC were supposed to have screened the event from 15:00 to 19:00 (SA time), but due to the fact that they couldn't manage to get the commentary link, they took it off the air at 17:30, much to my disappointment. Judging from the above comments, however, perhaps it was a mixed blessing that we didn't have the commentary! Nevertheless, it was a spectacular sight and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we did get to view it. Glyn.

Almost certain to be clips on Youtube, maybe some by owners or people with an interest in particular vessels.  Poor old Dooky Embrah got a waterworks problem by standing for hours in the cold, he is in drydock to escape the pop concerts etc.
