and now you've given me a conundrum Rod %%
I feel the answer should be obvious to an idiot but I really can't decide {-)

If you have a small oval radar dish and a larger bar type radar, and both rotate at 30rpm
............ would they appear to be rotating at a slightly different speed?

Dave

I cannot remember which is which, but I think the small oval dish is X Band Radar and the larger bar scanner is S band. May be 180 degrees out, but one is a long wavelength and one a shorter wavelength radar output. (Google will give the definitive answer). The longer wavelength can see through the screen clutter and rain better than the other and from seeing them both in action many times, I believe the larger bar type scanner does actually turn slower than the smaller one so no probs.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Sorry Trawlerman, forgot to say that your model is a lovely looking example of a trawler from that era.
Very well done.
Congratulations on a well executed model.
Cheers,

With the red tint in the pic, it appeared to be a shot of a real boat !

The colours chosen for the model are quite good and go well to make it appear a real boat.

I am compelled to resume work on a Mountfleet model I started last summer though I rather doubt I can match the realism of your museum quality build ...

Hi Rod,
any thoughts on building a model of the Jacinta? I am sure it would gain an exceptional amount of interest, locally and everywhere? even him up the road!

And here is three pics showing the weathering  %) http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/search.php?query=Jacinta&x=17&y=10

Oh, as Mountfleet Models were mentioned - they were at Haydock today and the bussiness is up for sale (I'd love a Boston Typhoon)

Hi Mick & Dave....Super pictures, she looks a bit weather beaten.  I was onboard her last week and she looks a bit better now just having had a complete re-paint, I visit her a lot and i have a brew with her skipper and crew and listen to all the yarns, so if i built a model i would have more than enough information plus a free run of the ship for photographs.....Rod :-)) :-))

BIG brother is watching you! I suggested Jacinta because she is right on your doorstep, and as you say you can get all the info you need.It would look good in the museum dispayed alongside  you know whose Ann Leticia Russell. Its a good cup of coffee in their too! I was watching a programme on the Quest channel this afternoon, called Sea Quest, about treasure hunting.I feel sure the boat they use is an ex trawler?

A classic Fleetwood trawler, well apart from her stern! My uncle Tom was a trawlerman from Milford Haven. Sadly missed after an accident.

I always had a soft spot for the SSAFA because of her name (didnt know it was an abbreviations!) when I was a kid. Saw her sail in and out past the Jubille Quay and up the channel a fair few times. I remember when Jacinta was new too. I sure she arrived with a sister or very similar ship but cannot remember her name.

Her sister was the Fyldea, FD 182, But she didn't stay long.... stayed in Fleetwood from 1973 ( a year after Jacinta arrived ) to stay only until 1978 when she was sold to a company in Newfoundland and renamed "Fermeuse"

Hi Neil with all this build chatter going on I was wondering when your next build  is going to start, & what will it be ?, how about a Boston Typhoon. I am missing your 3 lifeboat build a lot, it was the best one on here for all the time you were building them, Mick B.

Hey Neil

Haven't you had a long time hankering for a Manx boat? (the name escapes me)

Dave
yep I have Dave......but even those two I can't decide which to build or what scale to build in as I my fingers are full of arthritis these days and can't manage small scales any more..........

but it'd be a todd up between King Orry3 of 1913 or the twin stacker Viking..the record holder still for the fastest crossing from IOM to Fleetwood....special interst as my grand dad was on the ship the day she made that crossing.
so still undecided.
