How do I get the wire for the gaurd rail identical
« on: June 04, 2012, 11:51:53 pm »

I am making the rails that go round various decks on Fairmount Alpine .Please has anyone any tips on how to get all the bends the same .Also what is the preferred method of fixing the brass wire through the stanchion's . I can not decide if thy are alli or white metal ,if push comes to shove I will have to use super glue. don't like the stuff ,still reinventing the wheel.
Thanks all ,I hope every one had a good time at the Mayhem Meet

Build yourself a bending jig.
This can be as simple as a dowel set into a a piece of plywood.
You can clamp a board near it, as a guide for a straight run to the corner, then use
another board, or metal straight edge to bend the bar around the dowel.

Or a jig that represents every corner along the deck edge.

Hi David, the stanchions are brass & easy to solder with 15/25 watt iron & a very fine tip, it does take a steady hand & some skill. you can use super glue & I would apply it with a needle, again it takes a steady hand, be careful how much you put on the needle, practice on some scrap first. Hi all, I have tried (last week) soldering and instant glue.  The instant glue works better, it is very difficult to get the excess solder off.  I was working at 1 : 100 scale.
