Hi,
just a few lines to introduce myself. I am in the over 50's age group and have a mostly aviation background and interests. My late Grandfather was in the ship building industry on both the Tyne and Blyth (mostly Blyth). He scratch built a model yacht for my brother and me when we were about 10 ( I was, my brother was 8 ). I still have the hull and hope to restore her someday.
I managed to get into this hobby by a mutual friend ( Mr Andy on this site ) as he wanted to get into this hobby but he had little knowledge of building kits. As he knew I built model Aircraft, he approached me to build a kit he had recently purchased ( the Zwartz Zee ). Needless to say I was hooked not long after we started to build her ( the frequent bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale Andy kept feeding me probably helped :} ).
I have since then helped Andy scratch build a Springer Tug and showed him how to steam form the ply he used for the hull. I scratch built mine out of plastic from old placards and I was more than pleased with the way she took to the water. I have also been constructing the Bankerk over a number of years, as I want to get as much detail in as possible. I now have a pre-owned static model of the Huntsman which I hope to convert her to radio control. I have posted a few pictures of her on one of Andy's threads.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to many hours of model boating.

Bob.

Hi Again to you all,
many thanks for the welcome I have received from you all, it's nice to know there are more of us who like to do somethong constructive.
I forgot to mention that I am now based in North Wales ( 25 years + ) after having left the RAF. I still miss the North East and Blyth in particular ( thankfully we can still get Newkie Broon here, so it's not too bad :}).
Thanks again for your words of encouragement,

Bob.
