Speed Controller voltage
« on: June 13, 2012, 04:31:23 pm »

I bought a 50A JP Esc for my latest build and did intend to run it with two
7.2v batteries giving about 14v but have just found out, a bit too late,
that max volts for this Esc is 12v.
Anyone had any similar set-up or view as to whether this would damage Esc?

Almost certainly it will.

You might get away with it but remember a freshly charged battery may peak quite a bit above it's rated value.

You'll very likely cook it. Get an ESC rated for the voltage you want to run at.

Ok - Thats quite clear then, a new Esc it will be.
Electronise has been suggested as being suitable.

Thanks.

Electronise are o/k for upto 24 volts but are not waterproof I have used 2 of them for years on 16.8v
and never had a problem.
The JP 50amp Marine ESC is 12v max.

Whilst I agree that Action gear is good stuff I have used Electronize speed controllers in most of my boats and have found them to be very reliable. The only one that failed to work was down to user error.
