Help!! I have upset someone
« on: June 16, 2012, 01:53:15 pm »

I am in a bit of a situation......
Some nice woman from Asia way just phoned
To tell me that my computer was sending out viruses and offered to help, if I gave her my IP address
And passwords. When I said that would be great do you want some money placed in a Nigerian bank she got confused.
I then told her what she can do with the offer of help but she said I was being rude and offensive >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(
And hung up  :D :D

In all seriousness though they nearly got my mum a few months back with this scam, luckily my sister was there
And stopped her giving out details (not very switched on about computer scams).  I thought that I would share just as
A warning for others of the scam :-))

I led one up the garden path for about eight minutes before informing him I was not actually connected to the internet, and how exactly did my PC contact Microsoft without an internet connection?

I usually congratulate them for having contacted the world's rudest man. If they don't get the message I then begin to prove it to them. Serves 'em right for ignoring TP, don't it?

'Hello, we've noticed you've got multiple errors with your windows PC, blahblahblah'

5 minutes later I tell them I've got a Mac. Keeps them on their toes ;)

Also get the 'we've noticed you haven't taken advantage of the free loft insulation scheme', but only while at work. In an industrial unit. Which they have to use a multiple choice answer machine to call through {-)

I get 2 or 3 of these a day.  They evade the Telephone Preference Service by calling from abroad, knowing BT are not allowed to block international calls.  No one I know abroad has a witheld number.  I also have a caller display on my phone, so if it shows "International" and number "Witheld" I know it's a scam and simply don't answer it.

I keep getting calls about refunding my £5000 protection payment from a 2004 loan.
They have my address, my wifes name etc ............ they really do
......and could I just give them my bank details so they can transfer the money immediately O0

I really do wish I had taken a loan out in 2004 because I could really do with that £5000 the very poor English speaking gentleman has ready for me.
