Fixing - styrene/ply/fibreglass
« on: June 20, 2012, 03:53:02 pm »

Was wondering what the more prolific modellers out there find most successful in the adhesive departmen.

I am building a superstructure in styrene card, and was initially thinking of styrene decking, suitably stiffened (warship, long and thin), but then thought that some thin ply might add more rigidity, so comes the question, whats best to stick the styrene to the ply, and then the ply to the fibreglass hull?

Thanks.

For sheet stuff .......at least TRY double sided tape. Sticks anything to anything...permanently. BY

Good double-sided tape does the job every time. Quick'n'easy and permanent (at least 20 years as my models have proved). BY.

Are you sure you haven't got shares in 3m ???

Bryan is quite right, industrial double sided tape is an excellent way of attaching sheet materials to each other, much better than using the gooey stuff theat tendes to ooze out round the edges and needs cleaning off. For some reason most people seem to assume that adhesive is something that comes out of a tube - it needn't be as Bryan's models demonstrate.

industrial double sided tape

Hi Colin / Bryan

The stuff I've seen in the shops has been quite cheap so probably not at all what you describe above; which one would you recommend please?
