Is Anybody A CAD / INVENTOR / RHINO Expert?
« on: June 21, 2012, 05:16:20 pm »

Hi all,

Is anyone here a 3d CAD, Inventor or Rhino user and is quite good.

Im stilll on with making a Whitby Coble and am trying to design it all on CAD so bits can be sent to a waterjet machine and it all pieces together nicely. I do have some 3d workings of the boat, however they are all wrong and I pretty much need to start again.

I need certain functions doing such as Unrolling planking, however I don't think CAD supports it and is more of a Rhino function.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dan,

First off have a look at this video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZD-As77jhA

Gives an idea of how Inventor works.

Next a couple of questions -

Do you want a 3d plug cut for the model? If so carry on with 3d Cad -
Delft ship / Goggle sketchup with .STL export works for this sort of work and can be done without full copies of the applications.

... or

If you want frames/ keel & Planking to be cut then good old fashioned lofting in 2d cad will probably be easier at the moment for you to produce the drawings for cutting by a 2d machine. If you have Paper plans to work from then is an easy way to go.

I know that doesn't hand you the answer on a plate but I'm here if i can help if you have anything else but please remember i do this sort of work commercially and not going to spill two many of the beans!

Regards,
Kim

Hi Dan,
Have replied to you - wasn't able to before now as Kindles in the wilderness don't seem to like multiple windows.
Or in laymans terms i havent had proper internet access the last couple of days.

Now i will leave it up to you but there might be others interested in your project ...
