Help Wanted
« on: June 25, 2012, 04:22:09 pm »

The photo below is of my great grandfather (for reference purposes I'm 63) and I know absolutely nothing about him, neither is there anyone alive that can provide any info.

I'm assuming naval service before, in and around WW1. The cap tally is unfortunately covered but going by what letters that can be made out, ie last four letters to be ANDA I have tracked a vessel down which could fit the bill, that is HMS Miranda a destroyer from 1914, photo below.

Can anyone else have a better stab at it as my books of the period are limited. Also, assuming he's wearing his cap properly, In what period did they wear caps with the cap tally ribbon like that?

After leaving the navy he became a coastguard.
