B Y M S
« on: June 27, 2012, 02:43:16 pm »

Hi there , I fancy a warship as my next project, and, as funds are a little low I was thinking of the British Yard Minesweeper semi kit from PS Ships, it seems small enough to fit in my Corsa, is i/48th scale so should have lots of detail and wont break the bank. Has anyone built one, and if so, is it overly complex, as I have not built anything from scratch before. Failing that can anyone recommend something similar?
Many Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Nick. :-)) :-)) :-))

P S Ships do not exist anymore. They joined with Sirmar before they packed it in.

I believe Sirmar have started up again under new management  :-))

You could also try Sirmar's motor minsweeper.

There is a build log on the model warships page

http://modelwarshipsuk.informe.com/forum/mine-warfare-vessels-f22/105ft-mms-t1562.html

Its in 1/48th Scale, cheaper than the BYMS, fairly easy for the superstructure and deck build although a little smaller that the BYMS.  Myabe that fits your bill. Do fancy one myself and I hear they sail remarkably well.

The mickey mouse is a nice little ship
Pauls (ex ps and sirmar) is a quick build
good looking model.
Fancy one myself, was going to buy Pauls
But was too late, doh.

HI, yes the BYMS was a straight forward build from my perspective as my father was on the BYMS during the war, unfortunately I didnt get it finished before he passed away. The hull was a original sirmar hull and the rest I made myself, I enjoyed it and it sails extremely well. see photos

I've got a pretty good drawing of the BYMS supposedly to 1/48th scale, including hull sections  I'd be happy to e-mail it to you.  PM me if you'd like it (it's a fairly big file but very clear).
