Its years since I sailed there, but it is a rowing boat lake, most sail on the Conway side.

From the main shopping centre, there is a long dual carrage way to west shore, it is at the very end of that, it over looks the Conway estuary, its not large but you can sail models there.

Stavros was so keen to give you such excellent directions he forgot to tell you which lake   :D

You are right, there are two lakes at Llanberis. We sail on Lyn Padarn.

The other, Lyn Peris, is the lower lake for the pumped storage scheme and is totally unusable for boating and inaccesible anyway. Lyn Pardarn on the other hand is superb.

I thought your post said a mid week break, but if you are there on a Sunday you really ought to come up to Llanberis, A good, easy, and scenic drive from Llandudno and a nice days outing.

I am from Colwyn Bay, but I have a mate lives in Llanberis, so I have spent many weekends there. And many a Sunday morning walking off a hangover along the shore of Llyn Padarn. Never saw any boats though. I have not been to Llanberis for the last 5 years though.
Often used to walk up the zigzags and then down that path.
Shanghai is no place for a country boy.

Its probably a small rowing boat. There are a few which are hired out during the summer from an area adjacent to where we sail. It is quite hilarious sometimes to watch the antics of people who haven't a clue how to row a boat :D

If you look just above that white dot and to the left, you will see a concrete landing stage (with a slipway alongside but not visible) - that is where we sail from.

A regular Sunday outing is to sail in convoy from there, along to the stream which you can see at the bottom of the photo and then as far again up the stream before returning.

In the opposite direction you will see a wooded area projecting out into the lake. This area contains some interconnected, very sheltered Lagoons.

A more adventurous trip which we sometimes do, involves sailing up to and through the lagoons, out into the lake again and round to the far side of the wooded area. Its a LONG way. A problem though is that we cannot get to the lakeside for all of the way and we can easily lose sight of the boats for a short while as they progress up the lake!

Its quite a trip and requires complete confidence in your model.

Do come to visit us, we happily let visitors sail a model or two.

Haven't seen a bobsleigh team practicing but we often see a long distance swimmer (towing a small yellow hi- vis buoy) going the full length of the lake, :D

I used to live in Colwyn Bay, we had the North Wales Model sailing club, we sailed Marbleheads untill the council resurfaced the bottom of the lake and made it too shallow for marbleheads.

Which lake is that. Eirais park boating lake? Is that still there.

I remember there used to be a small boat pond at Eirias as well, untill the new A55 went thorugh the end of the park.

I remember, just.

There also used to be a small boat pond at Rhos Point. Over the road from the Mynach.
And of course there was Craig-y-don.

finally got round to posting a reply Don B
Had a loverly time in your end of the country earlier this month and went to electric mountain as i couldn't remember the directions for the above lake , and wo and behold there we are at the same lake but viewed from a different angle.

We stood on the pier watching the ducks ,well thats what i told the swimbo i was realy looking out for mayhem on the water ,but sadly none about unless you lot have mastered rc ducks and swans that eat bread .

But what a beautifull lake you have .? do you scrape your bottoms in the shallow water or is beaching a no no?

Glad to hear you found us ( or at least where we sail from  :) ) - pity it wasnt a Sunday or you would have met us all, we use  the slipway shown in your picture and the bench/seats in the background for lunch.

There is plenty of depth close up to the right hand (even for deep keel yachts) and in front of the slipway, and usually just enough on the left for shallow keel boats but the water must have been a little low when you were there.

Nice big car park we have don't we ? But this last weekend the blasted Council have made it a "Pay and Display"  at £3-50 per day :( :( - we are objecting but I doubt it will get us anywhere. Typical fleece the visitors and to hell with the locals attitude  >:(

Anyway glad you had a good time - do come again ( on a Sunday this time ?).

Don B.
