Day 4 & 5. Digging out completed and hardcore laid - I don't think I've seen two men work so hard and achieve so little in three days, reminded me so much of Vauxhalls in the '70's, that was last Thursday (12th July). Contrator arrrived later in day to inspect and told me that the concrete would not be available until Monday - today - and that they would put shuttering up then.
Monday morning, raining yet again, had serious doubts as to whether they would turn up but, they did, rain became heavier. The had some problems in getting the levels correct. Though the area looked to reasonably level overall, this was in fact an optical illusion caused by the back wall sloping left to right in the pictures, concrete was delayed until they had sorted it out. Concrete wagon arrived at lunch time, the concrete is all mixed in the wagon and load into wheelbarrows in a matter of seconds, amazing, considering what it used to like when it dumped in the road and it a race against time to get into place before it set. All done in about 40 minutes and off they went, rain also stopped as they left, have to wait as the slab dries. I doubt very much if there will be anymore work done this week as the forecast is for more rain, especially on Wednesday but, we shall play it by ear and see what happens.
