Classic 1977 AMPS SX100 F1 build
« on: July 08, 2012, 02:52:16 pm »

I picked this retro F1 hull up,originally designed for inboard nitro with steerable drive,im told this could be the last remaining 1 so i feel very lucky to have it,gonna go pick up an new driver and plastic for the screen to finish the scale look and OB cowl
Iv decided to install a 7.5 ASP nitro engine (originally for the cat) and put it together but will have to use strut and rudder set up instead but thats no probs
will need to self mod the exhaust to fit and make some engine mounts but have everything here to do that only need to order some stuff which i can do this week could possibly have it built and ready to run by the following weekend

More modern looking was made for it but i prefer the retro look for it i think

Had a day to myself today while the workman in doing repairs hehe
Iv trimmed the canopy for better fitment and managed to lower it 1/2" so looks abit sleaker, got to use the modern canopy for now due to clearance issues
Iv mounted the, strut & rudder and installed the cowl locks
Next was to make up some engine mounts and risers to install it into the hull and also modded the exhaust manifold to get it to fit quite alot done in all
Just waiting for deliveries over the next couple of days of radio box, fuel tank etc

thats my only concern,i could get a strong micro servo to replace it with and just it to set everything in place im limited to space so would be better to use 1

Cheers A71 i got mine from prestwich models but had to mod it to fit under the exhaust

Hey james
I didnt want loads of pipe so and fits nicely as it is,but what iv done is bend round the brass tube with a short piece of fuel pipe and attached the clunk so its sits towards the back of the engine so should be fine as it is  :-))

bit more done
arranged and fixed the servo mounts in and lipo placement, also installing the stuffing tube
Just gotta sort out now best way to secure radio box, also waiting on male/female rubber mounts to allow easier removal of engine should i need to
and trying to figure best way to mount the fuel tank aswell but not far off now
Tomorrow i will add a layer of carbon fibre and resin in the stuffing tube properly aswell add some floatation in the sponsons, got to add something to the front of cowl to lock it down so still a fair bit to do yet but going together well so far

Managed to add a layer of CF to the hull and add the floatation in the sponsons and nose and also the the stuffing tube is now epoxied in
next job is soldering the conectors to the lipo,UBEC and sort out fitting out the radio box and work out mounting the radio box
