Hello to all. Im a 50's y/o that came back to the model hobby about 4 years ago.
I had been gone since the mid 1970's, and the industry has changed like nite and day with all the new fangled technology and building mediums available. ie; resins, FG, P.E.,..white metal and so forth.
Found I was most interested in ship building and jumped into the plastic 1/350 area. (ODD THAT SINCE I WAS AN USAF VET AND NOT A USN VET)
Was most amazed and shocked by sticker prices!
But times they are a changing for sure.
.....................
Lately I've had an interest in larger scale and more detail, neither an option when working plastic...well,..not many options. There are now a couple 1/200 scale BB's....a few 1/144 Scale small combatants and a handful of 1/125 subjects.......but these are money pits if done correctly and detailed up
My current two projects are a 1/144 DD and a 1/125 Minesweeper. (both are only 75-80% and are WIP's) I enjoy the detail level and size but im still not satisfied...either would be a good subject to build in 1/96th.
I have NEVER worked in wood or fiberglass....and only slightly with casting resins. My scratch building skills are very rudimentary at best...I have some basic tools of the trade...saws,..drills,..sanders...compressor and airgun...and a shop area to work in.
So here I am ready to toss away my "Plastic" Carley Float and join the adult world now!
Class in session
Ps Please forgive an over-look any ignorant question im certain to be asking!
