OTW and Scale Shipyard Senior moment
« on: July 16, 2012, 08:21:21 pm »

I seem to recall some did a post about the Type VII U-Boat running gear from OTW and using it on the Scale Shipyard 1/32 type IX U-Boat

Does anyone remember this or are there any options about this parts swapping. While it be not be perfect I think it would close enough without trying to scratch build it

Thoughts please

Hi there Andy_k. I have had a chat with the guy in the states about this. OTW type 7c running gear, will not fit  a type nine u boat, it is all about 1/3rd too small. My fault, I started this thread when I tried to sell this running gear a few moths back.
I think it's about time that I should take up cross stiching. any way? have you a type 7c hull?
Off to bed now, I hate shift work.
Cheers

Maybe there's been a miscommunication here. The Scale Shipyard Type IX I was thinking about is the 1/32 scale the same as the OTW Type VII Phil were you trying to put it on the Scale Shipyard 1/48 scale Type IX ?

Hi there John. I did buy it to try to see if it would fit a type nine.

Here she is, all 94.5 inches of her.

This is the otw type seven runnig gear, it is all about one third too small. Not sure what to do with it all now! Can't see me ever building it, don't think my back could take it these day's!!!

Phil, That would be a great looking sub on the water want one! along with the Type 7 really need to stop looking at these things but love the larger models. Didn't realise you could get a Type 9 in 1/32 thought it was all smaller scale. Tom

So, would the OTW Type VII running gear work on the Scale Shipyard type 9? If so, I know someone who could use the running gear 8-).

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Hi there Salmon. The answer to that question is no, as far as I can see. I have been thinking about way's to make it work for the last 2 year's, off and on, and, I don't think it can. The best thing to do, is to find out who makes the running set, and get them to scale it all up to the right size. Yep, I think that this is one for precision control, I would think that it would a bit pricey though, as they might only ever sell a couple of sets. Any body got any other leads on 1/32nd scale type nine u boat running gear? I would love to know.
Cheers guy's

What's the difficulty with making up these items from scratch?

Type VII's were a much smaller boat, so the running gear is highly unlikely to fit well.

Suitable props for a Type IX can be sourced from Prop Shop. The rudders, hydroplanes and skeg can be constructed from brass (best) or plastics, or a combination of the two.

Is someone selling some 1/32 running gear to fit a 1/32 Type 7 hull?
My 32nd Parallel is in need of such gear, i could scratch build it, but would save a lot of time?
