Power Monkey or.....?
« on: July 27, 2012, 09:44:38 am »

I have to confess a blind spot when it comes to mobile phones and the like, so I need a bit of info from someone who is conversant with the subject.
Mrs ACTion has a Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet PC which she uses as a book. The problem is that when the internal battery goes flat she has to wait until whatever means of charging has done its business before she can resume reading. Being married to me you will understand that Liz is not a lady of infinite patience.....
I've found reference to these Powermonkey portable thingies but nowhere can I find out whether or not you can use them as portable power supplies i.e. use them to power the tablet or phone when the internal battery is flat.
Do any of youse guys know the answer?

Probably a stupid question, boss...but can't Mrs Liz use the device with the charger plugged in? My tablet PC chews it's battery in well under an hour...when I questioned this, I was told to 'plug the charger in and use it like that'...so that's what I do. I also have my laptops connected to their chargers all the time I'm using them.

Most of these devices seem to be basically a battery box containing enough cells to give a higher voltage than the thing they supply.  If the device works off its charger, it *should* work off the portable supply.  It all then depends on what is inside the Powermonkey - if its alkaline non-rechargeables or rechargeables, and for how long they can supply the device and if the external batteries have enough wuff to both charge and drive.

Not in a A320 seven miles above France, dude!
I think the Powermonkey has Lithium-ion batteries, Doc.
Thanks for the link, Martin. Looks like the same gig without the big ticket price.

Looking at the Q/A section on the Argos site, they aren't saying it can be used as a primary power supply, They are still advocating it as a charger.
