Sorry to hi- jack the thread but what material would you make them out off i.e if you used say brass wire would they not tend to pull straight when tension is applied to them. I ask as I am about to require some, and it would be good to make some.

Many thanks

Regards Tony

Have you tried Modelling Timbers - he used to have lots of fittings for rigging sailing  vessels

Piano wire is best, won't straighten under load

When you say a bit too big, how big?  What I did when I wanted them to be a bit smaller was to cut the existing ends on those ones with snips and then gently close them up a bit with pliers and voilà ! ..  :D

I have used 1/4" brass split/cotter pins (google 1/4" not 6mm).
The eye of the pin is big enough for snap links to go through. It is also tough enough for sailing purposes.

Simply drill a small hole, so that the pin fits tightly, and glue in with CA. If they go go all the way through a mast/boom you can trim the ends with pliers.
The smaller brass split pins you can buy for modelling are too weak for working models.
