HI ALL, I have seen this clip before of Concorde and to me this is the time you take your hat off to these gents that build these 'true to scale' aircraft.   & actually fly them.  when you think in our hobby the worst that can happen is you can lose your model to the great depths (never to be seen again in some Welsh lake) but, I can dare say 99.9% of us just get away with a good swim to retrieve our beloved model.  when the likes of these models such as Concorde go down with a bang not only are you crying over the many thousands of hours spent building the model, but, the finance behind it just think there are proper jet engines in these and they are not cheap so - hats off to this gent - what a superb model. & just think I used to help build the full-size engines for these 1-1 scale Concordes - noisy sods.

I used to inspect the blades for the Olympus Jet engines in the foundry at Filton, many years ago. ( just my two penny's worth).
Lovely    'Plane'   the Concord

Leaving Concorde, but still on true scale jets, I had (until my hard drive died over Christmas!) a video of a true scale B-52, complete with 8 real jet engines.  It looked fantastic as it taxied, then up to full power and a perfect takeoff.  Unfortunately, during a steeply banked turn, it literally fell out of the sky, crashed and was completely destroyed.  Terribly sad to see literally years of work destroyed in mere seconds.  Apparently, the 1:1's had a tendency to fall out of the sky when executing the same manouver (I'm sure that isn't spelt correctly!).  I can't remember where I found the clip, but it was from the web.  I think the engineering skill of the miniature gas turbine guys is simply stunning.  Anyone any ideas about putting one in a boat...

Hi Flag D, I read your post with interest and it's funny you should mention B52s falling out of the sky, I have the most horrific video of the full size doing exactly what you have described (tight low level turn). Its hard to watch but fascinating at the same time, the whole aircraft literally disappears into the ground leaving nothing but a fireball. I didn't know they had the tendancy to drop out in that fashion so it would appear they tip stall at low speed.
I have seen clips of gas turbine driven boats, one of which was a model of Campbells Bluebird and it seemed very potent although the operater avoided looping it! I bet the ingestion of a cupfull of water would cause an expensive failure of one of these units.
Manouvre , manouver , maneuvre, goodness knows, it is one of those ruddy words which can be spelled many different ways so I don't think apologies are  necessary.
Regards. Chris

You can see both the model and the full size B52 crash videos at

 http://www.f5d.co.uk/videos.html

The talk in the model aero world after the model crash was that he built another but on its test flight something failed and that one too crashed.

sorry to dig up an old topic, but.... my granddad worked for rolls royce, at Filton (I think), I thought he was something to do with the engines, but I also seem to remember he was some sort of electrician.... so dunno exactly what he did but he did something on concorde lol
