New Build - Waveney Lifeboat
« on: August 10, 2012, 05:04:06 am »

Hi folks,

Just a few moments ago I threw caution to the wind and ordered the 1:40 Waveney Class Lifeboat from Cornwall Boats.

All up including shipping to New Zealand just under NZ$90. So not to painful although I'm having it delivered to work so SWMBO doesn't get wind of it just yet.  ;)

Decided this was a good boat to start with - I like the look of it - and it is classed as a 'beginner' boat. I also decided on the 1:40 rather than the 1:20 as I think that a 3' long boat is just about right for a starter. The 1:20 would be longer than I am tall.

I'm going to remote control it and motors, gearboxes, servos and the like are completely foreign to me so would appreciate some help and advice on what type, size, etc. motors to get.

Cheers

Hi
You might want to check the site again. The dimensions given are in centimetres i.e.

1/40 - 36.3cms = 363mm = 14.3 inches

1/20 - 73cms = 730mm = 28.7 inches

Is that why SWHBO is always complaining??

 :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

D'oh!! I'm glad I made such a  %% mistake so early in my time here. At least it wasn't measuring on a real boat!!

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to crawl in to my man cave and hide for the weekend. i'll be back Monday (NZ time) when my really small parcel will have arrived.

Here we go:

The motors are 360's its all very compact but it runs ok.

I have included pics of what I did to allow access into the hull. The esc sits on top of the steering servo. I used a standard servo, but I reckon a smaller one will do the job and give you a bit more space. I had to add a little lead to trim it.

Good luck and don't forget the photos!

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for post, I've had a look at your build, really nice.

Kit arrived a couple of days ago.

Kind wish,
