The warnings I gave Rich were not to panic you but to be aware that a static build up generated by being in contact with modern materials can be deadly to modern electronics. I too have worked in the electronics industry and been made aware of the precautions "Required" when servicing customers equipment. The second part,, relating to screw "Wrangling", was mentioned cos the number of pieces of returned equipment that "Just went wrong" that looks as though a drill has been used to remove the screws makes it rather obvious that they've "Had a go". The screw manufacturers change the slot dimensions at regular intervals just to screw (bad pun) you up, at least 4 different types of cross slots to my knowledge, thus the "drilled" observation.
I'm not saying that you are incapable of removing 1 screw and plugging a board into your impending acquisition but be aware that if you need to reverse the process within the guarantee period, even with a piece of refurbished equipment, it may be a fight to have it repaired within the conditions of the small print if the seller can prove "Illegal tampering"
